The American Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Communications Assistant for a 5-month period beginning February 1, 2017 and ending June 1, 2017. The position serves in a support capacity in the Communications Department. The position reports to the Director of Communications, Assistant Commissioner for Communications and Associate Commissioner for Communications and assists on a daily basis with the internal and external efforts for the conference’s 21 sponsored sports. The position serves as the primary communications liaison with several Olympic sport programs, and assists with communications efforts as directed for football and men’s and women’s basketball, requiring regular interaction with member institutions’ administrators and coaching staffs as well as local and national media members. The position also assists with the Conference’s digital and social media efforts as well as with the production of content for The American Digital Network.
The successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and practical experience in athletics communications, preferably in a higher education environment. They will have a strong knowledge of a variety of sports, excellent journalistic writing ability, with specific knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines. Candidates will also be experienced and knowledgeable with Adobe Creative Suite, Stat Crew software, social media practices and video production and editing. The successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to work well with a variety of constituents, including conference staff, administrators and coaches at member institutions and members of the media.
