Assist the Head Football Coach develop and maintain a quality NCAA Division I A Football program that will be competitive on the field and in the classroom within NCAA guidelines and in a professional manner. Essential duties will include: serve as a defensive coordinator/coach working with the Head coach and the athletes to develop the complete defensive system and defensive individual skills for the football program. Serve as a positive and professional authority figure, a role model and a counselor to our student athletes advising them in matters related to their sport and education. Make public appearances and speak at civic events within the community in the absence of the head coach or as assigned; attend national, Conference USA meetings and national football conventions to stay current of their sports including changes that occur. Assist Head Coach with the development, organization and administration of the university’s NCAA Division I Football defensive system and assisting the Head Coach with: on field coaching, on and off campus recruiting of quality student athletes that can compete at the NCAA Division I level; scheduling competitive NCAA Div. I schedule, budget assigned defensive funds; monitor assigned student athlete’s academic progress and break down and produce opponents tendencies for weekly defensive scouting reports. Assist the head coach in development of a defensive play book, break down game film and perform other related special projects assigned by the Head Coach.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Two years progressively responsible high school, college, and/or professional coaching experience required. Proven ability to recruit academically and athletically qualified student athletes and demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required. Four years of playing and/or coaching experience at a collegiate or professional level preferred.
