Central Washington University is accepting applications for a Director of Strength and Conditioning. The Director of Strength and Conditioning has responsibility for the overall operation of the strength & conditioning program and oversight and development of performance programming for student-athletes in accordance with University, conference and NCAA regulations. They must possess strong knowledge of human physiology and be able to demonstrate a wide variety of exercises including Olympic lifting techniques and plyometric training. This position will work with head coaches, student-athletes, athletic training staff and athletic administration for the development of strength and condition programs, wellness for student- athletes, and supervision of the Nicholson Pavilion weight room. Job duties include but not limited to: • Program Development: - Develops and implements strength and conditioning programs for 15 DII athletic teams: Football, Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Baseball, Softball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women’s Rugby, Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field. Also for varsity program Men’s Rugby. - Works with the head coaches of these programs to develop sport specific programs that align with the goals of the head coach for pre-season, post-season, in-season and out of season development to optimize performance and decrease injury potential. - Assists with the oversight of sport-specific conditioning programs and teaches proper weight lifting, speed, agility and conditioning techniques. - Encourages and motivates student-athletes to train and perform to their utmost potential; player development.
• Student-Athlete Experience: - Promotes student-athlete welfare and provides appropriate mentoring to student-athletes. - Provides critical element of training for the prevention of injury and the skills and level of preparedness for our student-athletes to reach their greatest level of competitiveness.
• Supervision of Weight Room - Oversees graduate assistants in strength and conditioning, interns and volunteers. - Oversees weight room operations which include daily maintenance, repairs and organization. - Schedules athletic teams and supervises workouts of student-athletes
• Program Administration - Operates within all University, GNAC and NCAA II guidelines - Works with the Athletic Training Staff as well as Head Sport Coach to ensure student-athletes are successful in injury prevention and rehabilitation efforts.
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology or a related field
First Aid and CPR certified
Must be an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.
Must have successful collegiate and/or professional strength and conditioning training experience.
Experience administering and managing an athletic strength & conditioning program.
Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Must be proficient in the instruction, assessment, evaluation and supervision of multiple exercise techniques.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to travel and have a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of use and maintenance of fitness equipment.
Understanding and knowledge of best practices to ensure student-athlete welfare.
Basic computer skills including basic proficiency with MS Office and email.
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, kinesiology or a related field.
