The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director, Communications (SAADC). This is a career, full-time position with a targeted salary range of $130,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. The SAADC provides department management and strategic long and short term planning for all external department communications involving the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA). The incumbent will provide a consistent, strategic voice for the department as well as oversee the branding of the department in the marketplace. This position will also oversee the messaging of the department in various forms, including print, social, and video media channels as well as be the lead for any inquiries to the department and head any crisis communication initiatives. This position will act as the Department's main liaison to local, regional, conference, and national media outlets, as well as serve as the point of contact with University executives on communication matters including the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics as well as the Chancellor and any Vice Chancellors if necessary. A successful individual will also specifically advise the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Head Football Coach, Head Basketball Coach and other key department personnel in relation to communication and public relation matters. This position will work closely with the department’s External staff to create and promote various initiatives, including marketing, donor relations, sports information and corporate partners to coordinate, streamline, and enhance their communication efforts. The Senior Associate Athletic Director, Communications will also oversee the content and management of department website (uclabruins.com) in addition to the social and digital media endeavors for the Department and external video department. Moreover, this position will report to and work closely with the Athletic Director and other senior level staff to ensure consistency of messaging and long-term strategic planning with a significant focus on brand enhancement and outward facing items.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities: Preferred working experience of 5-7 years as head of communications/public relations department or progressively increasing experience within Power 5 athletic department; experience at a University or Professional sports media related program that would include sports information, media relations, digital, social, and athletic communications is strongly preferred; Demonstrated management skills; superior public relations skills, including outstanding interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, media, PAC-12 and NCAA officials; demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information/material with discretion; demonstrated detailed knowledge of Southern California, PAC12 area and national print and electronic media and the ability to communicate easily with the media, as well as UCLA student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators; ability to work effectively with a variety of people including various stakeholders of the program and institution; demonstrated ability to interact diplomatically with individuals of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; must have exceptional skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong understanding of various sports and their operations as well as the history of UCLA and UCLA Athletics is strongly preferred; demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements and changing priorities; demonstrated ability to perform under stress and maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference and hostility; demonstrated ability to operate a computer with working knowledge of various computer software systems; knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures, especially at a state institution; demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with department, University, PAC12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; working knowledge of media markets, Los Angeles and/or large media market preferred; working knowledge of current social media networks, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. and the ability to remain current on new trends in social media; ability to develop concise and consistent strategy as needed for sports and department overall; bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred; ability to analyze situations and systems, identify problems and implement solutions impartially and fairly, and have the ability to make decisions on immediate problems within prescribed scope of authority, based on knowledge of policies and procedures, including pertinent NCAA rules and regulations; general knowledge of financial and personnel policies, principles and procedures in a University setting with demonstrated skill in hiring, training and managing employees to perform a variety of tasks.
