The Michigan State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is looking for two Communications Staff Assistants. This position is a full-time, nine month internship.
The staff assistant will assist in all operations of the Office of Athletic Communications and will be directly responsible for working with multiple sports, in addition to assisting with football, men’s and women’s basketball, and ice hockey. The individual will also assist with gameday duties at athletic events and aid in creating content and help furthering develop the initiatives in new/social media and multimedia on the department’s official website, www.msuspartans.com. Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletic Communications.

The position will start in mid-August. We are receiving resumes until the positions are filled. This is nine-month hourly contract (40 hours a week); in addition to office hours, the position would require some nights, weekends and holidays. There will be occasional opportunities to work additional events for extra pay. Position is available to enroll in a Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) through Michigan State University.
Bachelor’s degree with a MINIMUM of two years experience as a sports information/athletic communications student assistant or intern (undergraduate or graduate); excellent writing and editing skills; computer knowledge (word processing, statistical programs, desktop publishing); must be able to manage multiple tasks. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate sound judgment and discretion with sensitive information regarding student-athletes, university staff, and the Athletic Department. The MSU Athletic Communications office uses Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Stat Crew Software, and CBS College Sports’ Netitor program; previous experience with these programs is preferred.
