K-State Athletics is seeking applications for its graduate assistant position in the department of Athletics Communications. The successful candidate will be working in a dynamic, positive office setting which allows a maximum opportunity for growth and leadership in a department that handles a 16-sport athletics program in the Big 12 Conference.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field and women’s rowing programs and will also have duties with K-State’s football and men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Required: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree as well as outstanding communications skills and strong writing ability. Previous media relations and athletics communications experience and demonstrable skills with desktop publishing software such as QuarkXPress/Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is highly desired. Added consideration will be given to applicants with a working knowledge of the Stat Crew statistical software package. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to work in a fast-paced environment that includes night and weekend hours. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field, and at least two years of experience in collegiate athletics communications.
Other Requirements: Applicants selected for the position must apply for and be accepted into the K-State Graduate School. Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate school hours in the fall and spring semesters. Tuition is not covered by the annual stipend; however, out-of-state applicants are eligible to receive in-state tuition rates. Applicant must be willing to work nights and weekends, as well as possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
