This position reports to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services. The position is responsible for the management and oversight of academic and student services operations for all student-athletes. The position is a confidential position and supervises 5 full-time Athletic Academic Advisor positions and 3 part-time positions.
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. The Essential Functions of the Job Include:
Provide leadership to academic advisors, support staff, tutors and student workers that support student-athletes in athletic academic counseling and advising, life skills and career preparation, and special programs such as community service outreach, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of academic advisors, support staff, tutors and student workers that support student-athletes in athletics academic counseling, life skills and career preparation.
Coordinate the teaching of the Athletics 10 course with academic advisors during the Fall semester.
Serve as academic advisor for Men's Basketball and other sports as assigned.
Monitor programs for improvement of grade point averages, academic progress rates, and graduation rates for student-athletes.
Coordination and presentation of workshops for student-athletes on a variety of issues including academic integrity and other life skills.
Direct special programs such as Life Skills, and community service outreach.
Implements electronic exit interviews with student-athletes.
Work with the Director of Compliance Services on NCAA academic legislation, NCAA academic initial & continuing eligibility and other student-athlete academic issues.
Coordinate the preparation of the required reports for the NCAA, Conference and the university as needed such as: Federal Graduation rates, GSR, and G.P.A reports.
Assist coaches with reviewing academic transcripts of incoming prospective and transfer student-athletes.
Staff the Athletic Advisory Council subcommittee for academic performance.
Manage and control the Student-Athlete Services operational budget.
Oversee approving and monitoring any form of academic advising related assistance provided to student-athletes from all sources.
Responsible for academic advising of student-athletes in assigned sports.
Along with academic staff and Faculty Athletics Representatives, will serve as liaison for interaction between faculty and coaching staff.
Foster and maintain good relationships with department, university and external personnel with whom you have interactions.
Support the department's commitment to equity and diversity, as well as perform all duties with integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
Support other areas of the athletics department by establishing and promoting positive working relationships within the university.
Work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education which is accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education.
Minimum five years full-time NCAA academic advising/student services experience at an NCAA institution, NCAA National Office or Conference office.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding initial and continuing academic eligibility as well as NCAA academic measures.
Recent experience with academic support services (study stables, tutorial, computer labs).
Previous collegiate academic advising experience, including working directly with student-athletes.
Ability to effectively:
Interact with coaches of Division I sports programs, student-athletes and campus officials
Ability to work effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Supervise a team of academic advising/student services professionals.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Multi-task and meet deadlines.

NCAA academic advising/student services experience at an NCAA Division I institution.
Experience in academic advising/student services at an FBS institution.
Prior supervisory experience.
Previous experience in data collection and submission of NCAA APR and FGR/GSR data, ability to develop and implement improvement plans.
Past experience working directly with football and/or men's basketball student-athletes.
