Position Summary: The head coach for baseball is responsible for initiating various aspects of the baseball program, such as recruiting, scheduling opponents, and the training of squad members. The head coach of the baseball program is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by the University of Charleston, the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the NCAA. This is a full-time, twelve-month position. UC is a member of the NCAA at the Division II level.
Promote and facilitate student-athlete classroom success
Recruit, train, and coach members of the baseball program (varsity and development squads)
Promote and market the baseball program
Generate additional funds for the support of the program
Organize and schedule all practice and training sessions
Utilize analytics for assessing the successes of the program and player development
Schedule contests with approval of the Director of Athletics
Perform administrative tasks including budget management and the reconciliation of travel expenses
Demonstrate a sound coaching philosophy, strong work ethic, and great character
Effectively manage athletic scholarships and obtain assigned roster numbers and net revenue values for the baseball program
Providean environment where student-athletes learn the principles of citizenship, integrity, an appreciation for cultural diversity, and respect and responsibility for self and others
Provide oversight and training of any full-time, part-time and volunteer assistant coaches
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among the various athletic programs that UC sponsors
Serve as game day administrator for football
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, with a graduate degree being preferred. Successful collegiate coaching experience is required, along with a demonstrated commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
