Reporting to the Head Football Coach, The Defensive Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the defensive unit of the team, including practice and game planning, overall management and coordination of assistant coaches in each defensive position. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Head Coach in all facets of the program to develop a competitive NCAA Division III football program within the Centennial Conference on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The Defensive Coordinator will monitor the academic progress of student athletes, work on and off campus to recruit quality student athletes, assist with strength and conditioning, provide general counseling to athletes, and assist the Head Coach in fundraising and other related special projects. Additional duties may be assigned.
Specific Responsibilities: •Plan, organize and conduct all practices for the defensive unit, including daily on field coaching and management at all practice sessions and games. •Organize game preparation, including film breakdown; develop game plans and scouting reports related to the defensive unit for each contest. •Develop an annual defensive playbook and teaching progression. •Supervise and evaluate all defensive assistant coaches. •Schedule and manage film sessions and meetings for all defensive positions. •Recruit qualified student athletes for successful participation. •Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct becoming of the coaching profession adhering to all college and professional sport association guidelines •Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations to pass NCAA Rules Test •Adhere to all applicable compliance regulations including but not limited to NCAA, ECAC, The Centennial Conference, sport rules and regulations, FERPA, etc. •Monitor and support the academic progress of assigned team members. •Accomplish other duties as assigned, including one department wide administrative duty.

Previous college-level and/or professional coaching experience required
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred
Certified Strength and Conditioning coach preferred
Successful collegiate recruiting experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong, detail-oriented, organizational skills
Computer literacy and adaptability in all Microsoft, Hudl, Recruiting and NCAA software
A strong knowledge and experience working with athletes, teams and programs required
A self-motivated leader/worker
Ability and interest in sports and a willingness to work with college students.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, coaching staff,
student athletes, vendors, alumni and general public
Ability to manage and supervise staff including training, scheduling, and evaluating
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible work week schedule including evenings and weekends along with overtime in busy periods during the academic year.
Knowledge of basic budgeting and record keeping procedures.
Ability to read and comprehend documents such as instructions, manuals, rulebooks, safety rules, policy standards, student time cards and memos.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence for varied groups.
Ability to speak effectively, present information one-to-one and in small group situations.
Valid driver’s license with two or less points.
