Washington University (WashU) is a selective, private research institution that was founded in 1853 with highly ranked undergraduate programs and top ranked graduate programs including the Olin Business School and the School of Medicine. WashU Athletics has a rich tradition of athletic achievement that began over 100 years ago and competes at the Division III level of the NCAA. WashU’s varsity sports portfolio contains 19 programs. WashU’s primary conference affiliation is the University Athletic Association Conference (UAA) while football competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). With an alumni base spread throughout the country, the reach of WashU’s athletic programs continues to grow.

Position Summary

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Administers all elements of a Women's Golf program, including developing team policies and procedures; scheduling contests and planning for home and away competition; demonstrating fiscal responsibility and budget oversight; promoting a team culture conducive to academic and athletic excellence; assisting, as needed, with fundraising strategies and events; outreaching to alumni and other members of the Washington University community; encouraging team members to participate in community service; and attending department, university, conference, and NCAA meetings.
• Coaches the team, including developing in team members the skills necessary for successful competition in the sport; recruiting, hiring, developing, and overseeing a staff of assistant coaches, if any; devising and implementing strategy for practice and competition; defining team and individual goals; and demonstrating positive sportsmanship and leadership.
• Coordinates the recruitment of prospective students to Washington University, requiring the identification of academically qualified prospective student athletes, ongoing communication with prospects, initiation of applications and matriculation of prospects.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management of the department.

Working Conditions

• Ability to travel to on and off campus games, work alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
• This position reports to work on a full-time basis during the months of August through May.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Experience teaching the game of sport, as either a coach or a teaching professional.
• Recruiting experience.
• Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
• Effective communicative and public relation skills.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Competent knowledge of sport specific techniques, skill development and game/meet planning.
• An understanding of how to build and manage a team.
• The ability to understand and articulate program needs.
• Demonstrated competency in helping to meet program objectives, working independently, supervising others, and helping to establish program priorities.
• An ability to communicate with and interact positively with students, faculty, staff and the broader University community.
• Knowledge in the operational use of computer and video technology.
• The ability to develop a safe, functional, and inclusive working environment.
• An appreciation of and a willingness to adhere to the NCAA Division III philosophy, rules, and regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience playing sport at the collegiate and/or professional level.
• An understanding of, and commitment to, the NCAA Division III philosophy.
• REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Successful passage of Annual NCAA rules test; current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
