The Vice President and Athletic Director ("AD") supports the creation and management of a comprehensive and holistic student experience in varsity and recreational sports and supports the College in oversight of all aspects of intercollegiate and recreational sports programs including staffing, budget, and facilities among other functions. As an integral member of Westminster College, the AD will serve as a cabinet member and report directly to the President of the College. The AD will also play a vital role in the leadership, supervision, compliance, fundraising, and daily management of Athletics and related activities. The AD provides support to other areas of the College in the implementation of initiatives related to the College's strategic plan and master plan. Located in Fulton, Missouri, Westminster College is in the NCAA Division III - SLIAC - Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

Provide support to the College in the creation and management of a comprehensive and holistic student experience in varsity and recreational sports.

Actively promote a culture of sportsmanship among coaches and students. Ensure and maintain a respectful, supportive environment conducive to the student’s athletic, academic, and personal development and achievement.

Work closely with the Student Life Department as it relates to intramurals, student activities, conduct matters, housing assignments, or other student-athlete matters.

Work closely with the Vice President of Enrollment Services in collaborating with Admissions regarding athletic recruitment to be consistent with the vision and values of the College and its annual enrollment goals. Annually evaluate and hold accountable the athletic department overall and coaches for academic and graduation standards, appropriate conduct, both coaches and students, and enrollment recruitment targets for the various athletic teams.

Work closely with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement with regards to facility and general Athletics fund-raising opportunities, sports social events, and Alumni relations. Coordinate with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement with respect to annual fund-raising goals that augment the intercollegiate experience, equipment, facilities, and programs.

Directly supervise the Athletic Training and Sports Information functions including oversight of the Athletic Website.

Provide support to students engaged in the athletics, physical education, and recreational programs.

Train and support the individuals that have game management responsibilities.

Oversee facility maintenance concerns for all athletic facilities. Engage daily with Plant Operations staff on athletic facility repairs and improvements and supervise professional and student staff in the daily operations and management of athletic facilities.

Serve as active member of President’s Cabinet. Collaborate with the cabinet members regarding student programs of broader interests, community building, and leadership development.

Provide support and leadership to the College in the implementation of initiatives related to the College’s strategic plan, master plan, and fund raising.

Demonstrate a continued commitment to meaningful collaboration, diversity, and the ability to think creatively to ensure that the purpose of the intercollegiate athletics programs remains consistent with the mission of the College.

Oversee Athletics budgets, prepare annual budgets, approve all spending, and manage institutional funds consistent with established College policies and procedures.

Hire, manage, and support all full-time departmental employees by providing leadership and professional development opportunities, complete annual performance reviews of all full-time employees and part-time employees (where appropriate) as well as setting annual appropriate goals and objectives and development plans.

Responsible for all NCAA compliance regulations in conjunction with the Compliance Officer. Ensure that the annual filing of NCAA reports are accurate and timely. Provide the College President with appropriate due diligence for their signature on such reports.

Work closely with the Faculty Athletic Representative regarding decisions made by the SLIAC Conference and/or the College that are in the best interest of the student-athletes.

Fully develop and implement a “Sports and Athletics” banquet and recognition program and event annually including an alumni and fundraising aspect to such an event, including the annual recognition of inductees into the Westminster College Athletics Hall of Fame.

Monitor the Coordinator of Game Management.

Participate in and support Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”) initiatives.

Participate on the SLIAC Administrative Council.

Participate with the UMAC Administrative Council as it pertains to football as required.

Participate on NCAA committees as agreed to between the AD and the College President.
Experience:
10+ years of professional work experience in higher education; experience in athletics is preferred. Leading and managing athletic operations, facilities, events, recruitment, compliance, and assessment of collegiate athletic programs. Knowledge of best practices related to athletics and NCAA Division III is highly preferred. Experience hiring and training Athletic coaches, trainers, and staff. Demonstrated experience and results with respect to academic, compliance, recruiting and fundraising initiatives is essential to such experience.
Skills:
Ability to provide leadership and supervise staff with a collaborative and relational approach. Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships across campus and the President’s Cabinet. Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and families in order to establish and maintain good working and recruiting relationships. Effective communication, writing and presentation skills. Ability to effectively present information to a variety and size of groups. Ability to meet strict deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently. Knowledge of FERPA, Clery, and HIPPA. Strong computer skills competent in Microsoft Office 360. Ability to develop and manage annual fundraising goals and initiatives in consultation with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the College President.
